journer.org is the public home of journer: prepared journeys for service learning. The brand exists so student travelers, families, and schools can see a Bali volunteer-teaching week as a sequence of decisions rather than a mood board. Source guidebooks cover entry documents, Kuala Lumpur transfers, airport pickup opposite Kopi Bali, lodging options, temple etiquette, packing, safety rules, and participant conduct. Source itineraries titled HCIA & Journer describe a volunteer-teaching calendar and a combined teaching-plus-diving calendar. A certificate of appreciation issued with Bali Rastiti Bhakti Foundation documents six hours of school teaching across a four-day classroom window.
That is a narrower claim than many volunteer-travel landing pages make. journer does not sell an invented 2026 departure calendar on this site, does not publish program prices that are absent from the source files, and does not name partner classrooms that the documents do not name. What the site does instead is slow the reader down: how a teaching lab is briefed, how child-safeguarding sits beside tropical health, how an optional diving-certification pathway is scheduled after teaching rather than instead of it, and how a journey portfolio can hold lesson plans, attendance, and reflection without turning local children into content.
Two documented routes
The volunteer-teaching itinerary is a compact in-country week. Arrival is treated as an open check-in day. The next morning holds breakfast, a volunteer launch ceremony, and a public-education block. School teaching follows on later mornings, with two to three volunteers per class and optional themes of English, Chinese, and games. A community-center session sits in the middle of the week. The closing school block includes certificates and gift exchange. Total documented teaching time is six hours; community service is two hours. Afternoons are free time, which the guidebook treats as self-funded and self-managed.
The combined route keeps that teaching spine, then moves participants to the Tulamben area—spelled Tulanben in the source itinerary—for confined-water training and four open-water dives. Participants who meet skill standards may receive a PADI Open Water credential, described in the source as authorization to dive no deeper than 30 meters. journer describes this as an optional diving-certification pathway delivered with professional instructors. The site does not claim an exclusive PADI partnership beyond what the itinerary states.
Preparation is the product
The guidebook’s first chapter is not a beach list. It is a pre-departure stack: passport original plus three photocopies of the photo page, a round-trip itinerary, clothing that covers knees and closed-toe shoes for school, a German-standard two-pin adapter, a modest cash float, UnionPay or credit cards with a note to use BCA-marked ATMs, and a Telkomsel SIM recommendation. Tropical climate language is practical rather than poetic: average temperatures around 28°C, rainy season roughly October to March, dry season April to September, with visitor peaks in July, August, and September.
Online travel-readiness exists so students do not meet those facts for the first time in the arrivals hall. Families can rehearse documents, packing, and emergency contacts. Schools can ask for lesson briefs, safeguarding expectations, and a reflection plan before they approve a cohort. Mentors can schedule feedback before departure instead of writing a recap after the fact.
Journer aims to build a platform where suitable people follow their own intention into a suitable volunteer project, and where both volunteers and the students they meet can look at known and unknown things from a new angle.
What this website will not do
It will not invent hotel property names. Source lodging language offers a Marriott-brand option with two to four people per room and a Journer volunteer house with four people per room, single beds, wifi, and hot showers, with frank notes about slower wifi, possible water or power cuts, and mosquitoes. It will not treat Green School, temples, or beaches as placement sites; the guidebook lists those as optional visitor geography around the project point. It will not hide the conduct rules: no unexcused absence from volunteer blocks, no opposite-gender rooming in the volunteer house, no unapproved guests in lodging, and no itinerary changes inside two weeks of departure without documented cause.
