School Journey Cohorts

A school calendar, a safeguarding policy, and the source teaching week—combined without inflating six hours into a staffing program.

What a cohort contract has to decide

School Journey Cohorts wrap the source week in your calendar, chaperone policy, and assessment. Decisions: teaching-only or teaching plus Tulamben; Marriott-brand lodging versus volunteer house; who marks portfolios; what happens if a student misses a class; whether diving failure is academically acceptable; how you will talk about HCIA source documents without over-claiming.

journer will not print a 2026 departure grid to look busy. Bring your blackout dates to application. Bring your safeguarding policy. Bring the learning outcomes you already use so we do not invent a parallel report card.

Minimum academic wrapper

Schools comparing IVHQ-style or GVI-style pages should notice what is smaller here: hour totals, no named beach clubs, no fake partner-school list. That smallness is the ethical offer. If you need a semester placement, this is the wrong operator. If you need a prepared short exchange, start the inquiry.

A planning call agenda

If a school wants to skip ethics on that call, we should skip the partnership. Cohorts fail in the agenda they were afraid to speak. Speak it.

After the week, a second call: incidents, what to change, whether the water option harmed teaching. That second call is the difference between a tradition and a practice.

What a first-year cohort should not try

Do not try teaching plus diving plus a three-island leisure add-on plus academic credit plus a public gala. First year: teaching-only, one lodging type, a marked portfolio, a quiet showcase. If that works, consider water in year two with medical gates. Ambition is how chaperones drown in logistics and how children get a chaotic morning.

Do not send the entire senior class if only twelve have briefs. Selection is an ethical tool. Unselected students can join the online readiness without travel. That is still learning. Partnerships that cannot say no to a parent donor will say no, later, to a host’s needs. Reverse that.

Write a one-page memorandum of understanding that repeats hour totals, photo rules, and the leisure-risk split. It does not have to be poetry. It has to be findable at 01:00. Put Linda’s number on it. Put the school emergency number on it. Put who can authorize a hospital visit. Cohorts are partnerships between institutions, not vibes between friends who like Bali.

Partnerships with more than one sending school

Do not mix two schools in one volunteer house without a joint conduct code. Jokes travel across uniforms. Safeguarding reporting lines get confused. If you must mix, brief as one cohort with one chaperone chart, not as two cliques sharing a breakfast. Cliques skip class together. Combined codes skip less.

Credit policies should be aligned enough that one school is not inflating hours the other refuses to inflate. Otherwise students compare notes and the honest school looks cruel. Partnerships include the transcript ethics of strangers.

After, do not publish a joint press release with a classroom photo. Publish internally: hours, incidents, one change. Press is how mixed cohorts become a brand that hosts never agreed to join.

Who signs the parent letter

The letter that goes home should be signed by the school, not only by a vendor. Parents need to know who employs the chaperone. journer can be quoted for hours and pickup. The duty of care sentence belongs to the institution that will still be there on Monday after the plane. Partnerships that hide that sentence are not partnerships.
