How Travel Preparation Becomes Evidence

How Bali travel preparation becomes evidence.

Preparation is already data

Schools ask for evidence after trips because they forgot to collect it before. Travel preparation becomes evidence the moment you date a checklist. A packing photograph with closed-toe shoes visible is evidence of dress-code readiness. A screenshot of a family contact tree with Linda saved is evidence of emergency design. A marked lesson brief is evidence of pedagogy. None of these require Bali. That is the point: you can fail readiness at home and spare a host classroom your improvisation.

In country, evidence is attendance against source blocks, not vibes. Saturday launch, Sunday school, Monday community center, Tuesday close. Write the times. After return, evidence is a reflection that can survive hour totals. The 2020 certificate associated with Bali Rastiti Bhakti Foundation is one historical form of hour documentation. It is not the only form, and it is not a substitute for the student’s own log.

What not to file

Children’s faces. Passport numbers. Unredacted boarding passes in a shared drive. A hundred temple photos. A dive card presented as if it were a teaching credential. Evidence libraries that cannot be shown to a principal are liabilities.

Use the portfolio system offering. If you cannot point to four dated artifacts before wheels-up, you do not yet have a service-learning project. You have a holiday with a gap in the morning.

Chain of custody

Who saw the bag photo? Who marked the brief? Who took attendance? Write initials. Evidence without a witness becomes a story. Schools that may later be asked “did they really teach?” will be glad of initials. This is not surveillance of children; it is accountability of guests.

Digital evidence hygiene

Strip EXIF if photos of public streets include your lodging. Do not store scans of passports in the same folder as the brief. Evidence is not “keep everything.” It is keep the right things.

Evidence for people who were not there

A principal should understand the week from the folder without a verbal tour. That is the test. If the folder requires a student to narrate every photo, it is not evidence; it is a prompt. Captions that say “launch Saturday; community center Monday; closed with scheduled gifts” are evidence. Captions that say “unforgettable” are fog.

For combined routes, a principal should see that teaching hours still happened if a dive failed. Put the teaching log first. People who were not there will otherwise assume the trip was a dive trip with children in the credits. Order is argument.

Evidence when the week is shortened

If a ceremony, storm, or illness cuts a block, the evidence is the cut. Do not backfill hours with a temple visit. Leisure is not teaching. A shortened log is still a complete log. Completeness is honesty, not a full table.

If a student sits out for safeguarding reasons—too ill, too distressed, too unsafe in water—the evidence should not punish them with a zero in ethics. It should record the sit-out and the adult who knew. Evidence systems that punish self-removal will train people to hide.

Store the shortened-week note in the library so next year’s design includes slack. Evidence is for the future, not only for a grade.

Evidence of a no

If a host said no photos, the evidence is the absence. Do not add a street photo of the school gate as a substitute trophy. Absence can be documented in a sentence: “No images, per host.” That sentence is stronger than a picture. Evidence includes restraint.
