Partner Checklist for Service Travel

A checklist you can send in advance

Hosts should feel free to answer “you wait outside.” A partner checklist that only lists what guests want is a consumer document. This one is for the people who will still be there on Wednesday.

journer’s source week already contains a launch, school blocks, a community-center block, and a close. If that shape fails your timetable, say so in application. Do not absorb a useless morning to be polite; the children pay for that politeness.

We will not put your school’s name on a public page unless a later, explicit agreement says so. That is part of the checklist: marketing is not the rent.

After-action questions for hosts

Was the team size right? Was the theme usable? Did gifts cause problems? Should guests come at all next term? Invite the last question. A host who can say no is a partner. A host who cannot is a site you are using.

Money conversations

If there are costs for the host, put them in the private agreement, not on this website. Do not pay children for photos. Do not freelance donations into a teacher’s personal account because it felt nice. Checklists include finance ethics.

A checklist for sending organizations too

Hosts are not the only partners who need a list. Sending schools should be able to answer: who marks briefs, who holds passports copies, who has the medical forms, who will not post, who calls Linda. If those answers are “the students will figure it out,” you are not a partner. You are a customer of a destination.

Share the host checklist with students so they see the room is not theirs. A teenager who has read “you may be asked to wait outside” behaves better than one who thinks they have a right to a photogenic morning. Transparency about host power is part of service learning, not a threat.

Revisit the checklist after the week with both sides if you can. If you cannot reach the host, that is itself data about the partnership. Do not fill the silence with a glowing blog. Silence might mean they are busy, or it might mean they hope you will not return. Either way, do not invent a testimonial.

Checklist for money changers and drivers

Partners are not only classrooms. A briefed driver is a partner for an afternoon. Use the list. Pay the listed amount. Do not film them without asking. Do not bargain them down in a way that makes the next student unsafe because the good drivers stopped taking journer calls. Checklists include the economy around the week.

Money changers in Ubud are not partners; they are vendors. Still, do not count cash on the street. Privacy and safety meet here. The partner checklist can include “count in the house.”

If a vendor asks to photograph students with a logo, refuse. You are not a billboard any more than host children are.

Checklist item: water

If you have a tap children drink from, tell guests not to offer bottled-water theatre that shames the tap. If you do not want guests in a kitchen, say so. Water is culture, safety, and class. Put it on the list so nobody improvises a charity moment with a bottle.
